The OB/GYN

This is just an observation, I find in my experience (having met 3 female and 2 male Ob/Gyns) that the male members of the fraternity seem a lot nicer and gentler than the female kind! It's like the females (especially the ones that are mothers) are harder on you than they need to be. From bedside manner to their responses to your inane questions!
Sure, they probably are bored with first time moms (FTMs) asking random questions and fussing over themselves, but seriously, didn't you go through this when you were an FTM?

It's a simple case, I think, of knowing what is next, of making the FTM stronger and having her expect the real pains of child birth. Also, they see myriad cases, from the easy breezy to the downright horrifying, everything that could go wrong, will go wrong type. So when they come across the average Jane who is fussing over some pelvic pain and the discomfort of finding a comfortable spot at night, it's almost natural for them to roll their eyes!
Male OBs on the other hand have never experienced, first hand, the physicality of pregnancy. They may understand or observe, but they cannot, have not, will never, feel the pains of pregnancy.
Last week, I was telling the OB (male) that I am concerned I won't know what labor will feel like above all the other aches and pains I feel. He reassured me, saying I'll know. He made this funny little motion of holding his belly and said "you'll be 'WHOA' let me sit down for a second..."
While I kinda sorta got what he was saying, imagining a man going through the rigors of pregnancy and child birth are just so alien! It was almost comical what he did...but I took his word for it. Hopefully, I will know when labor strikes (or not, it will be nice to be blissfully unaware of what's going on...) and hopefully, it will be soon now!
